Celebrating Advent across our schools 2018

The schools in our Trust have all been celebrating Advent

A Christmas Prayer

Christ, my beloved Lord,
Heavenly host proclaim your birth
Rejoice and be glad they say
In a stable, in Bethlehem, the
Saviour of the world is born
To save and to redeem us
May we be grateful and never forget
All he has given and done for us
Son of the living God, Jesus Christ the Lord.

You can of course see more of our school's advent celebrations via their school websites, social media and newsletters.

We plan to update this page with activities from the final week of school!

St. Joseph's Harrogate

Year 5 led a reverent collective worship, encouraging the whole school to live out our mission of peace - to say sorry and to forgive others - as we make this journey to our Saviour’s birth.

Year 6 made sweet boxes and cake boxes for the school Christmas fair. We had lots fun both making and selling them. They all sold out very quickly. What a super afternoon!

St. Joseph's Christmas Fair

On Friday 14th December we held our Christmas Fair. All the classes planned their stalls and worked hard to create their games and goods to sell. The stalls raised £170.30. The SJSA held their hamper raffle and raised a fantastic £517. They have kindly donated £100 of this along with the stall money to our Advent charity Mission together.

Newsletter 7 December 2018:

“This week, we let the first candles in our Advent wreaths and children have been taking home the Travelling Cribs.

On Thursday, the children gathered together to practise the hymns with the organist from Church ready for our special Mass on Sunday. Children from all classes will be leading the 9:30am Mass. Children have practised the Mass today and have been given their readings to practise at home. It would be lovely to have as many children and families as possible on Sunday.

On Friday, the theme of our assembly was the Liturgical year. Father Lawrie very kindly lent us his different coloured vestments so the children could see what he wears at different times of the year.”

Year 2 have been busy getting our classroom ready for Christmas. We drew around our hands and cut them out to make the tree. Then we wrote our Advent promises on baubles, decorated them and added them to the tree.

St. Mary's Menston

Our Carol Service takes place at 7.00 pm on Monday 17 December at Leeds Trinity University. We invite all students, staff, both past and present, families and friends of the St. Mary’s Menston community to attend on this special occasion: families that are new to St. Mary’s are especially welcome.

Our advent appeal in support of our four school charities is well underway.

Some of the numerous activities taking place are:

  • Sweets Tuck Shop

  • Match the baby picture to form member

  • Guess how many sweets are in the jar

  • Bake Sale

  • Christmas cinema and tuck shop

Year 7 students attended a performance of the Christmas pantomime, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at the Carriageworks Theatre in Millennium Square.
